A 48,000 square
foot interpretive center located amidst 11 acres of park land on
the Red River, at the heart of Fargo-Moorhead, this facility was
designed to house the full scale replica Viking Ship "Hjemkomst"
(home coming) as its focal point. Covering the 75 foot
vessel and its 85 foot mast and yardarm is a tensile fabric
structure rising 100 feet above the site as a landmark Its
program includes visitor reception, flexible meeting/education
space, flexible exhibit space with extensive technological support
systems; offices for three historical agencies, substantial
archival storage, exhibit development facilities; and a 1,000 sq.
ft. museum store. Exhibits are both permanent and traveling,
focusing on a wide variety of subjects pertinent to the past,
present and future of the Red River Valley. |
