Located just south of
the US/Canadian border stop at the edge of the small community of
Pembina, this 12,000 sq. ft. museum contains a permanent exhibit
on the history of the Red River Valley, and a changing gallery for
traveling exhibits of the State Historical Society. A
sizable lobby allows the building to serve not only as a regional
museum but as a visitor's center for the State tourism office to
greet international travelers. The highlight of the facility
is a 100 foot high tower and observation platform from which
visitors will be able to survey the valley, and identify the
international boundary and local historic sites. The project won the ND
Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Merit Award
in 1996. |
