Serious
settling in a Monastic facility of a Benedictine community, built
in 1926 on the banks of the Red Lake River, led to temporary
bracing to allow time to study the alternatives of replacement and
restoration. Careful planning and descerning led to
replacement of the non residential functions, including the
chapel, administrative, social and infirmary facilities for this
Benedictine order. The chapel, seating about 200, serves as the
worship center of the community, both functionally and literally,
for both eucharistic liturgies and the liturgy of the hours. It
also serves as a devotional center for the attached nursing
facility housing elderly members of the religious community.
The facility was designed using many elements of the original
structure including columns, stonework and an Italian floor
mosaic. |
